We hope you're reading this while snuggled up with a nice big bowl of candy - that's at least how we're writing this.
Katy Shay Photo reached out to us exactly a week ago about participating with your Halloween styled shoot. 1. If you look at Katy's website you'll instantly fall in love with her and her style. 2. We LOVE Halloween (so much that we traveled to Seattle for a Hallowedding shoot last year!). So it was a pretty easy YES!
It was easy to get to work on this shoot because we had almost everything on hand (including that sweet scull candle) because, as we said, we love Halloween. We wanted to showcase some blooms and Flower Happy Floral came in clutch and created an incredible wild fall bouquet and provided table flowers.
Now the model, the crazy beautiful model is Nichole with Of the Wolves and her husband. They were such troopers! We had this shoot at 8 in the morning during Halloweekend, it's freezing at this time because, well Montana, and towards the end of the shoot, it started raining. They never complained once!
Oh, Brian and Hannah. Where to even begin? These two were a dream to work with. We coordinated their Montana destination wedding. Their main priority was to spend as much time with their family and friends as possible. This is what lead them to have a camp theme wedding - getting to share meals, floating on the lake, and enjoying the beautiful Montana big skys. Their wedding was at the Spruce Lodge at Glacier Camp which allowed their guests to stay on the property and enjoy the camp life.
These two were also the most welcoming people you can ever imagine. Not only did they allow us to stay on property but also IN THEIR HONEYMOON ROOM (the night before the wedding)! Whaaaaat?! On top of this, they put us at the "Dream Team" table! Come on. Just having a seat is ground breaking, but DREAM TEAM?! How fricken sweet.
Hannah is a graphic designer and added all sort of camp touches to their wedding day - those darling custom wooden coasters? That was her. The table names that were titled after inside jokes they had with those guests? How sweet are they?! Our favorite camp touch was their frosé machine...okay it's not camp related (at least none of the camps we went to had that), it it was a huge hit.
Now that's enough words, check out these beauties that Cluney Photo captured.
There's no better way to start off your wedding day than floating on the lake surrounded by your favorite people.
What is your #1 piece of advice for engaged couples?
HANNAH: Hmmm advice... I guess just to keep your focus on what about the event is most important to you, your "north star". For us, I'd say that was having as much quality time with our friends and family as possible. It's easy to let details compound (and they definitely did -- I ordered decorations we never bothered putting out just because I started over-thinking things!) but try to reel yourself back in occasionally to what is most important to the both of you.
BRIAN: I second Hannah on this one. Making sure you take the time to step back and enjoy what's playing out in front of you was critical and made the weekend truly special for us. I would just add that this is important to do with your spouse as well. Hannah and I made sure to step away and have our little loving moments where we reflected on what just took place and how important the day and weekend and people were to us. That meant the world to me, to not only marry my best friend but to also allow ourselves the moment to truly be engulfed by it instead of letting the action items of the day take precedence.
What was your favorite moment during your wedding day?
HANNAH: I honestly loved all the reception dancing (especially the couples dance that showed the amazing marriages surrounding ours!) and then night swimming and hanging out by the fire pit once the music had to stop. It was great hosting a camp-style wedding because of the extra time we got with everybody near and dear to us. Time still flew by SO quickly, but I felt very present thanks to having the full weekend of fun.
BRIAN: I thought the toasts were awesome. Such amazing and heartfelt sentiments from some of our best and dearest people in our lives. I think it sort of set up the rest of the revelry for the evening. Sitting there at dinner and looking around at every important face from my past was an absolute trip and something I'll remember forever.

Trader Joes // If you’ve spent more than one hour with me I can guarantee that you’ve heard me talk about some snack that only Trader Joes has. I don’t know why, but no other store can compare to the one I grew up going to. Their Joe Joe’s, not the potatoes that you are thinking, the TJ oreos, are life changing. It's a vibe; you go for the warm aesthetic, inexpensive snacks, and the free coffee in the back (this only took me like 10 years to realize). If you haven’t gone to a Trader Joes, do yourself a favor and head that way. (pro tip: If you are located in Missoula your closest one is in Spokane, head there ASAP)
Travel // I’ve got the travel bug, and bad. All my life I’ve been researching places to go, things to see and making my ‘dream’ itineraries for trips I had no way of going on. A couple weeks ago, on a whim, I bought tickets to visit my best friend who lives in Spain. A few months after that trip, with my friends from home, we're going to Thailand! And quite honestly, I still can't stop looking at flights.
Coffee // I’m that person who can’t function without their one… ok two, cups of coffee. My Mom is the same way and she taught me how to appreciate a freshly brewed, dark roast at a very young age. Because I grew up just outside of Seattle it’s only fitting that I know my good coffee from the cheap stuff. I do love a good PSL (pumpkin spice latte), which people claim to be 'not real coffee', but in the fall, when the leaves are changing color and it's starting to get colder and colder, how can you NOT enjoy one of these?!
Açaí Bowls // This is the best snack, or meal there ever was. I was first introduced to these a few years ago in California, and ever since my life has been changed. The best one I've ever had was from Mountain Berry Bowls; it had mango, kiwi, and bee pollen in addition to all the typical toppings. Who would have thought the best açaí bowl would be in Western Montana?
Creating Youtube Videos // Growing up my friends and I used to think it was super cool to make music videos to our favorite songs. We posted them onto facebook and they haunt us to this day. We made them to California Girls-Katy Perry, Baby-Justin Bieber, as well as Veggie Tales. Iconic, I know. I'll be doing autographs next month, hmu.
