There are a few things that can seriously make or break how your finished face turns out after you have applied the artwork that is your makeup routine. The color of your eyeliner, how dark your bronzer is, or your blush. Now, as you all know, I’m a huge fan of makeup that’s not terribly expensive but still an excellent product (Holla at me NYX), but blush is something that you have to spend time, effort, and a little money on. One of my biggest pet peeves is shitty blush. Why? Because it makes you look like one of those terrifying vintage dolls, like this:
Let’s not do that. Let’s look like Naomi Campbell, Kate Upton, or Jeffree Star. I swear that one of the most important products in your makeup stash is your blush!
So what do you use, Ariel? || One of the very first really nice blushes I bought is Smashbox’s Blush Rush compacts, which the internet is currently telling me is NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME, which is impossible to believe. Go check your local Ulta or Sephora, I swear it’s there. This was the first really nice blush I tried and I was not disappointed in the least. This is a matte blush, which is imperative if you are goin' big and shimmery with your eye makeup and/or your highlighter. A great blog once told me to either go shimmery with your face, or shimmery with your eyes, NOT both, as it’s overwhelming and can be too much. So if you are looking to invest in a great matte blush, this is the winner.
The most important element of a good blush is that it blends well, which is why most of the cheap stuff blows. It looks blotchy, and it stands out. Contrary to popular belief, AKA your grandma leading by example, blush should blend in with the rest of your makeup and add a light rosy glow. You should not look like Roxanne in the Red Light District. Don’t misunderstand me though, I love all beauty tastes, so if this is your look than slaayyyyyyyyy, bitch, slayyyyyyy. I prefer the more neutral, light shades. A friend once told me that when she buys blush she buys it in just a few shades darker/rosier than her foundation to make it stand out a little, which is totally fair and a legit rule to go by. It’s safe, and most likely won’t get you into too much trouble in your bangin selfies.
Another favorite of mine is another amazing product from The Balm, Hot Mama. This blush is seriously a catch all, amazing product for any day, night, or in between. The perfect peachy tint with the right amount of shimmer and attitude (that packaging, though). I wear it as part of my normal-go-to-work routine, but I also add just a little more to spice it up for a night out. You can add just a little or go big, but don’t add TOO much, cause this is a shimmery product, and it may end up putting your date in the hospital if you aren’t careful (it is, after all, called Hot Mama).
What if I don’t want to spend $24 on blush, Ariel?|| What is my go to more affordable option? Well, I have to be honest, I haven’t found many blushes on the cheaper end of the deal that are worth spending the $6 on. Everytime, without fail, I have thrown my Covergirl, Rimmel and Physicians Formula blushes in the trash to be totally transparent with you. I always encourage to invest in a nicer blush, BUT, I have found one that I love and actually used for my wedding makeup. Palladio is an awesome, affordable brand that makes some legit professional products. One of my everyday, low key blushes is their Matte Blush in Peach Ice. Was for sure a blushing bride on my wedding day, and looked natural to boot. And it’s really hard to overdo it on this shade and use too much, because it’s so light and inoffensive! So my blush sista virgins rejoice, this is what you want. Most of their products have pretty high reviews, and they are definitely a more affordable line. So far have not been disappointed with their stuff!
