I have a ton of passions in life. I’m passionate about my work, about my marriage, about books, about mac & cheese, wine, and cats. I love being passionate about things. But one of my biggest passions is makeup. I love love love getting done up for my days, my nights, for my wife, but most important for me. Let’s get real here. Getting done up makes me feel better for many reasons, but most of all I just like feeling at my best.
I’ve been obsessed with makeup for as long as I can remember. My mom wasn’t about putting much on, and none of the other females around me were that into it either (which is great, btw. You do you!). But me on the other hand, I had an obsession. I loved going to Target on a (more than) weekly basis to peruse CoverGirl, Maybelline, and Revlon for the latest and the greatest to try out. I, like many others, fell prey to the blue eye-shadow trends, the hotter than hell pink lip gloss, the too-much-bronzer-to-function phase and as all teen girls (and some guys-no discrimination here) of the 00’s, the wayyyyyyyyy too much black eye-liner phase. You name it, I’ve probably done it.
In my much wiser and later years (*cough*) I’ve learned some important lessons, which I can’t wait to share with you! The most important is that I’ve learned to invest in a nice base. Foundation is the key to the start of a good makeup routine.
My all time favorite foundation is tarte's Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation. This is a full coverage foundation, and it lives up to that for the most part. I definitely feel like I get a full coverage look and feel when I put this on, which is important to me. This is NOT a liquid foundation, so if liquid is your thing, I would suggest tarte's liquid version - which even has SPF in it. Liquid foundation leaves my skin greasy however, so I stay away!
I’ve gotta share a disclaimer with you guys, and that is I have the most sensitive freakin skin in the entire universe. Ev-er-y-thing makes me break out. Literally. BareMinerals? Hard pass. That’s where my skin issues started in the first place. Urban Decay? Forget about it. Looked like I had diaper rash on my face (#charming). And you can forget about any of the standard brands with all their chemicals.
The greatest part about tarte brand products is that they are all natural. No parabens, mineral oils, and they are ALL cruelty free (Champagne + Linen loves their fur babies!).
The cost is something to think twice about however. I pay around $35 at my local Ulta, which is definitely pricey, but for me it’s worth it because it’s one foundation that my skin does agree with. So I pay for it! I only have to buy a new one around every 3 months, which isn’t a bad price to pay for flawless looking skin.
All in all, I give this a 4 out of 5 stars, because even though this says it is full coverage, I think it could be MORE full coverage! Side note, you can layer this to get a fuller look, just don’t get it too cakey!
Best part, this is Ariel approved to use on your wedding day if you are doing your own makeup!
